About Us

Regent Park Resident Council was established in 2000 following the deaths of nine young men in the Regent Park Community. Residents were brought together to discuss community safety. In 2006 the Regent Park Resident Council became the Regent Park Neighbourhood Initiative (RPNI) and took on a more active role in the revitalization project.

The revitalization project of Regent Park will have a dramatic impact on the community. In anticipation of these changes, members of RPNI recognize the need for a community organization that will more broadly represent the needs of the community.

Over the longer term RPNI will develop the Neighbourhood Forum which will include current residents, new homeowners, tenants and business owners. As the neighbourhood diversifies through the redevelopment RPNI will act as a key convener of different stakeholders locally to ensure that residents have a voice in their new community.

RPNI has always maintained a close relationship with various community service agencies and institutions operating in Regent Park. These organizations have been brought together by RPNI to plan services for Regent Park through and after the revitalization.

We work for the Regent Park community!! RPNI is run by a volunteer board of directors; members include residents, local service provider organizations and will in the future include other representatives as the community changes.
