The Guiding Principles of RPNI are to:

  • Build community capacity by fostering the development of existing
strengths; identify and address gaps and barriers that limit community
    growth.
  • Ensure that the voices of residents are heard and represented through
decisions that affect and impact the community.
  • Facilitate change in negative attitudes that affect the productivity and growth of individuals, groups and the community as a whole.
  • Support a commitment to serve the community comprehensively and with integrity.
  • Act as a liaison between the community and RPNI partners to ensure open two way communication and opportunities for active discussion and informed decision making.
  • Sponsor strategic placement of RPNI members on various external boards, committees and groups to act on behalf of the community when needed and where it would be most productive and would benefit the community the most.
  • Develop, maintain and ensure that institutions and agencies that service the community are being held accountable to those they serve.
  • Develop and maintain accountability of the organization to its own membership and the community by strengthening resident leadership and participation and by creating effective communication vehicles.
  • Cultivate partnerships with relevant organizations from both the public, private and non-profit sector to respond to identified community needs and to ensure the long term sustainability of the neighbourhood.
  • Increase participation in democratic processes.
